BIOLINE WOOD CEILING TILES HELP NEW LIBRARY BRING THE OUTDOORS INSIDE
BIOLINE Wood Ceiling Tiles from pinta acoustic, inc. have helped bring the outdoors inside at the new Ramsey County Library in Maplewood, Minn. The library is adjacent to a wetland and faces a city-owned sculpture garden. The design team wanted to connect the natural environment and atmosphere indoors.
| “Floor-to-ceiling windows face the wetland and mature trees, and the lobby features a lot of glass; so the wood ceiling helps to create the effect of nature transitioning from outdoors to indoors,” says Jay Biedny, project manager, Ramsey County Property Management. “We were looking for a ceiling product that was warm and rich and had an organic sense. We definitely did not want a stark white ceiling. We first saw a polished wood veneer ceiling product that was far too expensive. Then the architects, Hammel, Green and Abrahamson, presented us with the BIOLINE product, and we fell in love with it.” |

“The product was easy to handle and install. In fact, the installers said it was just like popping in regular ceiling tiles,” says Biedny. “BIOLINE Wood Ceiling Tiles are so versatile. I’d use them in another building in an instant.”
The library’s lobby features continuous Organic-Texture BIOLINE Wood Ceiling Tiles in the medium shade.
“The ceiling looks monolithic, or like it were made of one solid piece, rather than of individual tiles,” says Biedny. “The floor and ceiling create two planes with the lobby between them. It’s a unique look.”
In the other areas of the library, the design team wanted to create an open feeling with graceful curves.
“We didn’t want a full ceiling in the book stack areas,” says Biedny. “We installed BIOLINE Wood Ceiling Tiles in clouds spaced apart by the same width as the ceiling cloud. The tiles appear to be suspended below the metal ceiling pan, and the light bounces beautifully off the tiles. While the look differs from the lobby ceiling, the open-stack area ceiling is equally unique.”
BIOLINE Wood Ceiling Tiles also provide
acoustical control. They reduce reverberation and
echo by absorbing 55 percent of sound directed at
them.
BIOLINE Wood Ceiling Tiles are made from 80 percent
(by weight) recycled postindustrial material. In
addition to the Organic-Texture, BIOLINE is also
offered in a Solid-Finish natural wood veneer.
Organic-Texture BIOLINE Wood Ceiling Tiles are
offered in three standard —light, medium and dark—or
custom shades. The standard finish is certified
green and UV-cured with a waterborne-finish and UV
blockers for color stability. The self-centering
tiles feature a high-strength molded, revealed edge
and fit pinta acoustic’s and other conventional grid
systems.
The tiles are Class 1 fire-rated. (ASTM E84), have a flame spread rating of 25 and smoke density rating of 70. They are made from urea-formaldehyde-free core.
