SQUARELINE METAL CEILING TILES IN OFF-BROADWAY THEATER
“Off-Broadway theaters are generally pretty rough and in ‘found’ spaces. SQUARELINE Metal Ceiling Tiles fit well with the theatricality of our space,” says Erik Chu, an architect with Beyer Blinder and Belle Architects, which designed the New World Stages complex in collaboration with set designer Klara Zieglerova. “We liked the metal finish of the tiles and the see-through aspect that allowed us to expose the industrial conditions above the ceiling plane.”
| “Our complex of five theaters extends from street level to two levels below ground, and the metal ceiling tiles give us the sleek, edgy, modern Off-Broadway New York look,” says Walls. “Because the common areas are two floors below ground level, we wanted the ceiling to be open. The plumbing and ductwork above the ceiling tiles is painted white and can be seen through the metal mesh, which gives it a brighter appearance. |

“The installation was surprisingly fast and easy,” says Walls. “And the tiles are sturdy enough that we can suspend lighting equipment from them and don’t need to install lighting tracks.”
3,360 square feet of chrome metal SQUARELINEmedium™ and white SQUARELINEstandard™ Metal Ceiling Tiles were installed in the lobby and gallery at New World Stages.
Collectively, the New World Stages theaters seat almost 2,000 people. The complex is a nominee for a Design Times Square design award, sponsored by The Times Square Alliance.
SQUARELINE Metal Ceiling Tiles are available in three patterns —SQUARELINEstandard, SQUARELINEmedium and SQUARELINEultra™. SQUARELINE’s expanded metal design has a large open area. This offers a unique exposed look or allows noise to pass through and be absorbed by a pre-bonded willtec FM acoustical backer.
Tiles are constructed from expanded metal made from galvanized, powder-coated steel. SQUARELINEmedium Metal Ceiling Tiles are available in chrome, with or without a light grey or charcoal acoustical backer.
SQUARELINE Metal Ceiling Tiles are Class 1 fire-rated, fit into pinta or conventional grid systems and are easy to install.
